Finding the Right Assisted Living Facility

Choosing the right assisted living facility is hard. There are multiple assisted living facilities all over the Cleveland area. Some specialize in Alzheimer's and dementia, some specialize in rehabilitation with the focus on returning home, and others focus on independent living with minimal help. So how do you know which facility is right for you or your loved one?

The following are a few tips, resources, and people you can ask to make sure that you are making the right choice when it comes to choosing an assisted living facility.

1. Unbiased reviews. Searching online for reviews can pull up a lot of results for reviews on assisted living facilities. Some of these reviews might not always be unbiased. Make sure that the reviews you are reading are from an unbiased source. There are groups and even an ombudsman that can give you unbiased reviews of assisted living facilities to help you make that choice.

2. Physically Visit the Center. Never just go based off of reviews. Physically visit the center, preferably during visiting hours and unannounced. This allows you to get a feel for the facility, the atmosphere, and observe how the workers and patients interact. These are all items that can play a huge factor in choosing an assisted living center and it's best to observe these things in person.

3. Work Closely with your Doctor and the Center. Once you have it narrowed down to a handful of assisted living centers consider sitting down with your doctor and discussing the choice. He might have knowledge of some of the centers, how they work, and what they specialize in. Your doctor will know which centers will work best for what health conditions you might be suffering from or which will work best for rehabilitation purposes.
